Background
of Founding
The late Father Soichi Iwashita bought a piece of land in Shinanomachi with inherited funds and founded St. Filippo’s Dormitory Foundation in February 1934. Since its establishment, we have worked on the sound upbringing of youths. Since February 1952, as Shinseikaikan, we have been offering a place of learning for people from all walks of life, including those interested in lifelong learning.
Purpose of
Establishment
The purpose of establishment is set forth in the articles of incorporation: “To cultivate wisdom and virtue, enhance intellect and increase the literature based on the Catholic spirit, targeting students and adults.”
Activities We engage mainly in the following activities.
  • (1) We organize a wide array of events, including lectures, seminars, workshops, and meditation sessions, inviting academic experts, Catholic priests or clerics and those involved in social activities.
  • (2) We plan and manage training programs, hands-on learning programs and events for students.
We engaged in a wide range of activities from lifelong learning programs held in our meeting rooms or hall to the publication of periodicals up until fiscal 2013. Since fiscal 2014, however, because of preparations for rebuilding the facilities, the building has been closed. We are continuing with the aforementioned activities by renting other facilities thanks to the generous support of a great many people. For the specific venues and details of lectures, please visit our website or feel free to contact us.
